Presented a paper on cupola design at the BCIRA International Conference in York, England, on April 1,
1996.

Presented a paper on cupola design at the AFS International Cupola Conference in Chicago, Illinois, on
March 1, 1994.

Determined through testing in many cupolas, the proper heights of water-cooled tuyeres, to obtain the
maximum efficiency.

Determined through testing in many cupolas, the proper tuyere velocity, to obtain the optimum amount of air
to all coke in the bed.

Determined through testing in many cupolas the proper length of the tuyere protrusion, on all size cupolas.

Determined through experience the amount of metal a cupola should melt using a given amount of air, and
metal to coke ratio.

Determined through testing in many cupolas the proper air velocity in the cupola stack

Developed the first copper coil water-cooled tuyere using extruded heavy wall copper. 1981.

Designed the water distribution system for the cupola shell that eliminated the use of small copper tubes.

Modified the first conventional design cupola (drop bottom each day to the long campaign design in 1970.)

First recorded operation of a cupola 16 hours per day, then shut down for one shift each day, without melting
it out or draining the well. 1965.

Melted 3,500 tons per 24-hour day, using three long campaign cupolas.

First recorded operation of a cupola 24 hours per day, 6 days per week. 1964.

First recorded operation of a cupola 16 hours a day, then shut down for one shift each day, with out melting it
out. 1964.

Started the second water-cooled long campaign cupola in the United Stated in 1962.
